Netflix original Extraction was exactly how I predicted it would be in content- High on action and camera work but weak on paper. I still don't get why action movies are always meant to have weak script despite of audience appealing genre. And also logic defying moments make it even worse like one or two mercenaries fighting against entire Bangladeshi police and Army to protect a child of an Indian Drug Lord. Also wasting talented actors for just one or two scenes or making them act like dumb makes it even cringe worthy show.
Plot: Tyler Rake's team were hired to rescue son of an Indian Drug Lord from the clutches of Bangladeshi Pablo Escobar(That's how they mentioned him) who have hired some random local goons and kids to operate over the country(as absurd it sounds, it is a fact. While the action scenes and camera work is quite commendable, this wasn't expected to be that bad on paper. The Russo bros are regarded as Visionary directors after their stint in MCU but they're not visionary writers it seems(Joe Russo the writer has failed this time.
Sam Hargrave is the captain of this ship and with a thin paper plot provided tried to make it at least worth a watch especially with cinematography of Newton Thomas Sigel especially the single shot scene of 10 minutes length(Though it wasn't exactly single shot but the team deserves applause.
Performances wise Chris Hemsworth was leading from the front with one of his career best performance. The God of Thunder has proven himself to be a great actor as well besides being Thor. Rudraskh Jaiswal provided able support to Chris and he was worth mentioning. But the one who surprised me was Randeep Hooda! I've been a fan of his acting but never expected that he'll be such good in action sequences as well. The scenes between Hooda and Hemsworth were sparkling and wished more of them together. David Harbour had only two scenes and that too badly wasted it looked like he was there just as a distraction and unneeded speed breaker. Priyanshu Painyuli was also wasted in a rather unintentional comic role trying to make him look dreaded but ended up being a rather spoof of 'Bangladeshi Pablo Escobar' which didn't make him even remotely menacing especially if he uses local goons or kids to operate(besides the Bangladeshi army of course) the country and end up getting killed plainly. Pankaj Tripathi was there only in one scene that too for only 60 seconds and he exploded with his menacing look but that was sadly forgotten and avoided for no reason, those who know about Pankaj Tripathi and Priyanshu Painyuli(Bhavesh Joshi and Upstarts) would know how great actors they are. Amongst this all male led cast there was Golshifteh Farahani whom the makers tried to make it look important but sadly seemed disinterested.
While the movie had its own moments but the overstretched climax and bizarre treatment to one note characters(except Hemsworth, Hooda and Jaiswal) ruined entire plot along with illogical over exaggerated moments. Watch it only for the Hemsworth-Hooda show besides the plot was disastrous.

The pathos here is much better than the John Wick comparisons. this movie contains some of the best action that has been put to film in recent years. The only problem is the finale. It's predictable and everything hits exactly where you're expected to. I hated the vague and intentionally cutesy ending. Just spell it out already.
